Biography Carmen Nuñez-Lagos

Carmen is a Spanish Government appointee to the ICSID panel of arbitrators and a Council member to the Institute of World Business Law of the International Chamber of Commerce.

She has recently been elected as Vice President of the Spanish Arbitration Club worldwide.

A former partner in the offices of Hogan Lovells LLP, top tier UK/US law firm, in her 30 years of career, she has acted in more than 100 international arbitration proceedings on behalf of industrial groups and states.  Fluent in four languages (Spanish, French, English and Italian), Carmen acts in a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, energy and telecommunications projects  under the arbitration rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Swedish Chamber of Commerce (SCC) and the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

Carmen has an outstanding reputation as international arbitrator, being appointed as president, co-arbitrator and sole arbitrator and listed on the roster of arbitrators of the International Center of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of Arbitration (LCIA), Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne (CAS), KCAB International, Asian International Arbitration Centre, Milan Chamber of Commerce and Madrid Arbitration Court.

She is also listed at the Arbitration Center of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), the American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham), the Arbitration Court of the Czech Chamber of Commerce, the Court of International Commercial arbitration of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania and the Russian Arbitration Center.

A member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, she was elected to the drafting committee of the ICC Task Force on Arbitration involving States and State entities and to the ICC Emergency arbitrators’ proceedings committee.

She is named for four consecutive years as “Best Lawyers in France” and is recommended by Chambers, Legal 500 and GAR. She was also ranked third year in a row as Latin America’s Top 100 Female Lawyers 2019.

In February 2020, Carmen Nunez-Lagos was nominated to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators by the Government of  Spain.
